Luxus and Dream
Cities are not places which people dwell upon, but a
screen where people to project their imagination
collectively and to forester the dream-land of living.
The urban surface as sociopolitical expression
resulting from vibrant transforms of global conditions
can only be seen form the outside as one only
perceives one's gestalt from the mirror. Asian cities,
contrasting to the cities in Europe and the States,
conglomerate and expand in an unexpecting rate within
a condensed time--skyscrapers arise in few months;
communities take shape in one night; and malls,
theaters, shops, supermarkets can suddenly weave into
the fabrics of people's lives. Asian cities are the
site unmarked.
The rapid changes of socio-economic driving forces
convert urban space into boundless and scattering
suburban landscape, stuffed with high population.
Still the real-estate companies are boasting of a
mirage which filtered by the strategy of advertising
with a make-up of European touches--where the culture
meets the nature and where a good life could be
insured. "VIENA... EXELLENT LOCATION , SEEING YOUR LIFE
IN ETERNITY, " said in one real estate advertisement.
The collaborative work (Channel_A = Hongjohn Lin/Ella
Raidel) creates images out of the found real-estate
advertisement and photos of the urban condition
(Taipei. Shanghai): LUXUS and DREAM. The work deals
with the new living condition making reality through
media of the status quo.
